Mike Tyson says if you do not follow UFC you are not cool – UFC News
Mixed martial arts have gained enormous popularity recently, and not to forget it is all due to the Ultimate Fighting Championship that has offered a platform for mixed martial artists to exhibit their skills to the utmost. What more could be proof of UFC’s
popularity than former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson calling it better than his sport?
“When I came up, my trainer was a boxing guy. If my guy was in UFC, I’d probably go that way... I love UFC, big time,” said Mike Tyson to ESPN.com.
“How could you not be? They play UFC so much, you see it year round, and you just have to want to be a fan. If you’re not a fan, you’re not cool. I think some young kids may think that in boxing you’re so restricted with just your punching power and your
hand speed. In natural fighting, anything goes; you’re not restricted at all,” he added.
According to Tyson, his favourite fighter is retired Fedor Emelianenko. It should be noted here that Tyson has recently been advocating MMA more than he has ever advocated boxing. For some reason, a lot of former and current boxers are insecure of UFC’s
growing popularity, as they believe it is taking away their sports’ fans.
During his days of popularity, Tyson was considered the best fighter in the business. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in the world. Back then, it was being speculated that Tyson could beat The Greatest Muhammad Ali in terms of being the best
boxer in history but he could not. His fall to drugs and depression affected his performance and Iron Mike had to withdraw from a sport.
He made his return against Lennox Lewis but was knocked out.
Now, Tyson has iterated that he would have been a mixed martial arts specialist if he was not into boxing. According to Tyson, every part of your body is a weapon and that he would have been excited to fight with more than just his hands but unfortunately
he could not and he had to stick to the norms of boxing.
