  1. If Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis could all knock out Tyson, just imagine what a prime Joe Louis could do.  Louis was not only a power puncher, but a great boxer too and way too much for Tyson.  Louis outboxes and outslugs Tyson and wins by 7th round technical knockout.

To Adam R.  Louis only fought bums?  While there was a stretch he fought some nobodies, he did also fight Walcott twice, Schmeling twice, Sharkey, Baer,Charles, Marciano.  Who was Tyson's toughest opponent that he actually beat.  The answer is blown up light heavy Michael Spinks and maybe Tony Tubbs.  When he fought good fighters like Holyfield and Lewis, he was thrashed.

Untouchable why do you insist on playing games accusing others other than yourself of trolling or as you call it punters?  I think those on this forum with any common sense know better.  I've had this one and only account since 2006.

  2. Mike Tyson to this day, has no credible wins against any credible champion. When he fought his way up to champion the heavyweights were considerably thin....I mean look who he fought for his belts. Two versions of Keith Holmes and a light heavyweight.

Oh and correction. Black fighters in 1938 were not ENTITLED to avoid fighters, you fought who you were put in front of. I seriously doubt that if you cant get a decent seat to be served in a restaurant, that you are going to tell a fighting commission WHO YOU ARE AND ARE NOT going to box. Thats not even a realistic statement. And please...before you go back and edit to address me...please do this. Look at all the great fighters that Joe Louis DID fight...you will see "Ws" on almost all their names. Look at the mid level competition that Tyson fought...like Holyfield, Douglas, Lennox Lewis.."Ls" by each name.

No way, no how...does Tyson come out of this fight alive.

  3. both could punch, both had hand speed, but louis had more heart, motivation and stamina and made 25 defences of his title, even taking a few years off to join the army, to come back and continue where he left off.

louis wins this one by 8th to 10th round ko.

  4. People often view the "Status" of Joe Louis and compare THAT to Mike Tyson "The Fighter".....Louis accomplished A LOT in his career while Tyson squandered his.   The best fighters Tyson faced all beat him.  Take out the fights in each man's later career and see what you have left.

I think the men Tyson DID beat are a little tougher than the men Louis beat.  They are all naturally bigger.  Although Razor Ruddock never won a title you have to consider him on his POWER alone.  Tyson has one of the best chins in boxing.  I dare say that Ruddock, at 235 punches about as hard as Louis 200-205.

Besides Marciano, late in Louis' career, the closest Joe came to fighting a "Tyson-like" fighter is Arturo Godoy, who gave Joe all kinds of trouble in going the distance.  Holyfield is the closest "Louis-like"  opponent for Tyson and he beat Tyson.

Tyson's best chance would be to rush Louis early.  Louis didn't take a punch as well as Tyson and Tyson punches harder than anyone Louis faced, including Marciano.   Still, Louis was the more complete boxer.

Joe would suffer a knockdown early in the fight.  Mike would hurt and come close to stopping Joe.  He wasn't really a fast starter.  Against Schmeling, he had MUCH more than just a boxing contest on his shoulders.  Man to Man, Mike doesn't measure up.  Fighter vs Fighter, Mike presents a stern challenge.

Still, Louis isn't That much smaller than Tyson.  He'd come in at 205.  He usually took training seriously.  Mike would come in at 214, not much of a difference here.   Mike wasn't the 230 everyone thinks he was.  He didnt start coming in that heavy until he lost interest in training like a champion.

Louis also isn't as slow as some seem to think.  His FEET were slow but I can assure you that Footwork would NOT be a factor in this fight.  Joe would also take away another of Mikes biggest tools,  Fear.   Louis was FEARLESS in the ring.  Even the great Muhammad Ali admitted to being afraid of Sonny LIston.  He overcame the fear and used it to his advantage but it was there.   Louis showed NO fear at any time in his career.  Scratch the fear factor as a Tyson weapon.

Tyson starts off like the perfect boxer for his type, which is why he could possibly score a fast KO over a fighter like Frazier who doesn't have the greatest chin.  Against Louis it's a different story.

The problem is that Tyson never REMAINS true to form.  Even during his prime,  Tyson had the bad habbit of getting sloppy if the fight didnt end in a few rounds.   The straight, beautiful, well-timed combinations became Wide Looping punches.  This spells big trouble against the best precision puncher of all time.  Some were faster, some were stronger and punched harder.  NONE were more ACCURATE than Joe Louis.

Joe Louis was NOT the hardest puncher in division history.  However, he made the BEST Possible Use of his power.  Tyson is actually one of the FEW who punch harder than Louis.  However, because of poor stamina and bad balance and poor ring habits,  his power became meaningless in the later rounds.   Tyson had NO Kos after round 10.

Louis was a master at capitalizing on an opponent's mistakes.  You are not allowed to make the same mistake more than once against Joe.  Louis would survive Tyson's early barrage and make it to round 5.  His days of repeated mistakes, as with most fighters, ended after the first Schmeling fight.

Tyson would be the first to score a knockdown.  After failing to finish Louis his punch come fewer and often from a wide angle.   Louis would begin to score pass those wide looping punches.  The speed factor is now even or maybe even in Louis' favor.  Straight punches are faster than angled punches.  Tyson rarely threw straight punches after round 5.

Because Tyson has such a tough chin, it would take Louis a few rounds to chip away at Mike.  It wouldn't be TOO diffecult because Mike, though he would still stand, is now not so hard to hit.  Like Holyfield, Louis would make good use of his skills on the inside.  He would now be in position where he could crowd Tyson and take away his power on the inside while blocking many of Mike's blows on the inside.

In round 7 it's Tyson's turn to visit the canvas, courtesy of a very accurate and solid short right to the jaw.  Tyson survives the round.  People say Tyson has no heart.  That's not true.  He just doesn't know what to do when he's hurt.

The fight continues with Louis methodically breaking Tyson down.  He also does what most of Tyson's opponents never did.  He works Mike's body.  In round 10 Tyson walks into the very same short right that rose the arena 6 feet.  (thats what it seems like when you never see the punch coming).

Tyson is up again but this time he's defenseless.  Louis measures him with a few jabs, followed by another Thunderous right.  Tyson stumbles sideways and Louis moves in and finishes him with a 4 punch combination .

    Louis by KO in 10

  5. At that point, probably Tyson by late round stoppage.I like Louis, but the whole loss to Max Schelming concerns me, so I think Mike weathers some early leather early and comes back by the tenth or eleventh to take it.

  6. Joe Louis is/was superior to Mike Tyson in every conceivable category of comparison. I am amazed you can actually use both names in the same sentence. Joe Louis's shadow would KO Mike Tyson if it fell on him and the weight of Joe's legacy alone would make Mike quit on his stool.

  7. mike tyson by far.tyson was so much faster than louis.i believe louis is overated.he would only fight bums.tyson fought everyone.

  8. None of Mike Tyson's weight came from his heart.  Look at their careers.  Louis win by KO in round 7.

  9. Let,s get this straight once and for all Joe Lewis weighed 190lbs he was a prouder slow of foot and hand speed he could punch that is if the other person was not moving which most of his opponents did not do I am not taking anything away from Joe Lewis he was a h**l of a man and a great fighter in his time and to have to go through everything he had to go through at that time I don,t know many men who could have done it. But when it comes to fighting Mike Tyson would have steam roll Joe and we would still be looking for his head Mike Tyson was a beast. Let,s not take anything away form a guy because he had some problems out side the ring when it was Mike Tyson time to shine he shined just because I don,t like what O.J Simpson did off the field dose not take away the fact that he was one of the best running backs who ever lived. Did we forget how fast Mike Tyson was the head movement the power you don,t think Joe Lewis would have been a little rattled seeing Mike Tyson coming to the ring remember how Michael Spinks looked coming into the ring and he looked a lot funner going out Mike Tyson BY DECAPITATION IN THE 3RD ROUND

  10. people judge tyson based on what happened when he took drugs. when he wasn't on drugs, and in his prime, he could ko anyone he wanted to. INCLUDING LOUIS. sorry, but as much as i like louis, tyson would ko him in 10
