http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Keedy-c58524 signed the two-year contract with Surrey only after seeking the club’s permission.
Keedy, 37, on Friday, ended his 18-year-long affiliation with the Red Rose county after agreeing a two-year deal with Surrey County Cricket Club, and will now stay at the Kia Oval until the end of 2014 season.
During his 18-year-long stay at Old Trafford, Keedy played more than 400 matches for Lancashire, claiming over 800 scalps in all competitions. He was a key member of the team that won the county championship title in 2011, Lancashire’s first outright championship title since 1934.
However, the emergence of young spinners http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Parry-c2573 limited his role in the team this summer.
Lancashire’s cricket director Mike Watkinson said that being at the latter end of his cricketing career, the 37-year-old left-arm spinner wanted the opportunity of playing as much cricket as possible, and the club allowed him to look for other options.
“At Lancashire we’ve up-and-coming spinners Simon Kerrigan, Stephen Parry and Arron Lilley all looking to stake a claim,” said Watkinson, a former team-mate of Keedy. “Gary asked our permission to look at other options and he goes with our best wishes,” he added further.
Keedy also conceded that he needed to move “to fulfil ambitions”.
“I’ve reached the time in my career when I need to move on in order to fulfil my ambitions,” said the spinner. “I’m very excited to be joining http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 at this time,” he added further.
Keedy’s signing gives Surrey another spin bowling option along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 den Bergh and Zafar Ansari.
Paying rich tribute to Keedy, Watkinson said that he had been a fantastic servant to the Red Rose county, and will be remembered fondly at Old Trafford.
“Gary has been a fantastic servant to Lancashire County Cricket Club over many seasons, both on and off field,” stated Lancashire’s Director of Cricket.
“We’d like to thank him for his outstanding service to the club and we wish him well with his future endeavours,” Watkinson concluded.
