Mike Weir hopes to make the cut at the Canadian Open
Mike Weir has had a horrid season so far. The Canadian played in ten events, including the Masters, and astonishingly has not made the cut in any single tournament on the PGA Tour so far.
Mike has been a major winner once. He won the Masters in 2003 and has spent more than 110-weeks among the top-10.
A huge effort is needed by the Canadian to turn around his season. For a golfer who has won a major, these stats do not paint a very healthy picture. Weir is ranked 1,438th in the world and 34th in Canada.
Well, the next stop for him is the Canadian Open.  Weir is in desperate need of some encouragement and surely he will get that when he takes the field at Hamilton Golf Club.
Weir knows people are not expecting anything special from his part at the Canadian Open, so the pressure of performing well will be off him. This might help him a little, he said, bluntly, "The expectations are not there".
Late last year, Mike had an elbow injury and underwent a surgery to fix the problem. The good news is that he is back in full practise now and he sees some encouraging signs in his game. Mike has the support and encouragement of other veterans of the game.
This is what Jim Furyk had to say, "He has carried the flag up here (Canada) for years and years and probably carries a little bit more pressure than the rest of us do".
Furyk further stated, "I went to the grocery store yesterday and a guy wished me well in the tournament and, in the very next sentence, he said, 'but I think this is the event Mike Weir pulls out of it and wins.' I said, 'I will be honest with you, I hope
you are right. I think it would be great".
"It is just a matter of time before I start to see results again," Weir said, "I believe in myself, bottom line. So I believe I will be back".
Mike must not raise his hopes high, all he should do is set a minimum target for himself and focus on that. With the support from all the quarters, he will surely get back to form.
