Do you think mike mussina has a chance to win the cy young award for the american league. He is such an ace for the yankees. His other competition is Cliff Lee of the Indians. Does he actually have a shot with Cliff Lee being 15 and 2 with an era under 2.50?

  1. he has no chance. with duchscherer, lee, halladay, joe saunders, and ervin santana as his competition, he'll be lucky to place third in AL cy young voting.

  2. Well its gonna be close. The Angel 3 (K-Rod, Santana, and Saunders.) (Lackey would be in it but he was out for quite a bit) Lee, Mussina, and Daisuke are all possibilities. I'm guessing it will go:

Francisco Rodriguez- when was the last time you saw a guy on pace to get 60 save or so.

    Cliff Lee

    Mike Mussina

Then the rest are worthy but not top 3

  3. No, K-Rod or Cliff Lee will win it.

  4. I think so. He might not have the numbers that Cliff Lee does, but he wins games. And that's the name of the game.

  5. hes doin good but no

  6. I'm a Yankees fan and he's been a savior. He should get some consideration, but no, he won't be the AL Cy Young winner.

  7. If this was the 70s I would say no way..I believe he is barely averaging 6 innings a start. But this is the modern day where they really only focus on Wins and a decent ERA.

I think if he can lead the league in wins he will win because of his decent ERA.

Personally I put emphasis on Innings pitched and CG..

I would give it to Halladay at this point.

  8. NO doubt he has to be one of the front runners. Along with Lee, Saunders,a nd even Mariano Rivera who is a perfect 28 for 28 in save opportunities/chances. No other pitcher/closer has that impressive stat. Just when many were about to write Yanks off, and think their end of consecutive playoff seasons would end, Moose stepped it up when needed. Still remains to be seen if yanks get in, but Mussina certainly has done his part. If he can reach that 20 win plateau for first time, it will improve his chances. LOVE him!

  9. he's doing a heck of a job with the yankees (i seriously think that Moose is keeping the Yankees afloat) and i like him a real lot but not this year. Yes, there is a lot of competition this time around.. its gonna be hard one! With Halladay, Lee, Saunders etc etc.

Relief pitchers have always been kinda out of the picture when it comes to MVP consideration. I mean i think that's sort of unfair but i can see why people don't really with closers MVPS..

However, i would like to see Moose get that big 2 0!! he deserves it!! and if the cy young thing doesn't quite work out i think he should get the Comeback player award ;)

  10. He faces some tough competition from Halladay, Lee, Saunders, K-Rod, Santana.

He might have the most wins of all of them but his ERA is going to help.

  11. No to many losses, and to low era

i mean you can win 20 games, but if you lose 15 then ain't a candidate, and thats the path mike is going towards.

  12. cliff lee will win it

  13. Absolutely.

  14. He has a chance and he should really be considered. He gets less run support(example beating the rangers only 3-0) but i still think Lee will win it on the fact that he is having an incredible season.

  15. you have to remember about roy with his complete games and his shutouts and dice-k and his 11-2 or something like that. in the saves area you krod at all-star break with 43 saves which will probably end around 60 or 70 with total saves on the season. mo is doing a great job with no blown saves so far but i see him messing up 5 or 6 times in the second half. if he stays perfect and has around 40-50 saves he will be pretty close. he needs more strikeouts to be considered. the save people go for a different award of which name slips my mind, but it's the only award that is only based on stats.

  16. Right now, I'd say NO.

It'll be either Cliff Lee, Hallday (TOR) or K-Rod in LA.

  17. Didnt even read the details or all of the question and the answer is no. NO!

    not even close

  18. Absolutely!!! Hes 15-7....he has a great record....he is an outstanding pitcher....so i think hes a great candidate! I hope he wins i love Moose!! And Mariano Rivera....he is one of the most talented and hard-working pitchers in the game today...i think hes is a likely candidate as well....i love him....i would love to see either of them win it!! <3

    GO YANKEES!!!!

  19. If he keeps doin what hes doin definitely

  20. I think that he is a candidate for the AL cy young but (your hearing this from a bronx bombers fan) cliff lee will win with in my opinion a record of 19-4

  21. no, as much as i like mike mussina and his great transition, no. because frankly, the players that are in this league, such as cliff lee, justin duchscherer, ervin santana, joe saunders, roy halladay, you could even put aj burnett somewhere there, and jon lackey to some extent, so yeah, i really doubt it. i think he is having a nice season, but it is more like a pitcher with a era of 3.3, meaning he is getting alot of run support, so yeah maybe 2nd, or 3rd, but i seriously doubt it. as for rivera, NO, k-rod is way better, he will break the record at the pace he is going, if its a closer, it is k-rod

  22. yeah i think so! well i want him to. i don't like cliff lee.

  23. he has had a stellar year so far but no where as good as Cliff Lee. Cliff Lee has dominated the whole year. And the cy young does not deal with entire team success like MVP. The pitcher with the best numbers gets cy young which is why Lee is the choice
