  1. A prime Tyson was the most exciting boxer to watch, and one h**l of a fighter, but definately not the greatest boxer.

Arguably Ali was the greatest Heavyweight of all time, and the greatest boxer, as far as the answers here.

But if you ask me, you can't get any better than Sugar Ray Robinson.

Ray Robinson was the greatest person EVER put inside of a boxing ring.  Best combination of speed, power, and skill a boxer ever had; and his record, not too shabby.

  2. there have been russians and cubans who were 10 times better than tyson and ali but communism never allowed them become professional.if u doubt what i say look the last 10 years communism did fall what the 80% of champions r:)

  3. mike tyson was awesome, an indestructable force a man who couldnt be beat, until he beat himself and stopped training and getting involved with the wrong people. tyson will always be known as a true great but is maybe a bit underappreciated because of the controversy that will always surround him, he couldve been so much more but at the end of the day he failed to beat the opponants that mattered in holyfield and lennox lewis, he had the skills to beat em both but he had already lost those fights before he stepped in the ring

  4. Ali was and is the king

  5. strongest in his prime

  6. The Ali that beat Sonny Liston and the Mike Tyson who beat Trever Brubeck .This would be a great fight Ali wins this fight because Ali just had too many boxing skills but anyone else Tyson kills. No one ever beat Mike Tyson Mike Tyson beat him self by not being discipline inside the ring and out side of it. You can talk about the people he was with after Cus died and the women and all of that but the fact remains Mike Tyson is responsible for him self

  7. ALI IS THE GREATEST HANDS DOWN. JAB YOU TO DEATH BEFORE TAKING YOU TO SLEEPY LAND. TYSON HAD NOT ENOUGH HEART TO BE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

  8. No. he is ranked about #25 heavyweight of all-time. Anyone can look good fighting cab-drivers and bus-boys.

  9. The most exciting and electric boxer of his time, yes! The best..the answer is and will always be No! Yes, he was very good during that era, but Tyson was never as good as the public thought. Only true boxing authoritarians realize this and the people who are still caught up in the hype want to make up excuses for his down fall. Tyson didn't get associated with the wrong people he was and has always been part of his own problems. He had good managers who strategically picked fighters for him to fight to market and skyrocket Tyson to the top. Yes he was fast and powerful. But ask yourself what mega bout did he ever win when he needed to? Tyson never "came through the fire" like the great ones do! When did you ever see Tyson dig deep like Sugar Ray Leonard did against Tommy Hearns and pull out a victory in the latter rounds? Never! Had he fought Sonny Liston and some ointment  got in his eyes just as it did Ali in their first bout, Tyson would have took off his gloves and quit or got knocked out. He would not have weathered the storm with grit and determination like Ali did.Whenever Tyson was faced with adversity or a challenger who showed he was not scared or intimidated by him he would fold and get that look in his eyes like " I can't win". Go to your video archives and look at both Holyfield fights, particularly the second while the referee is giving instructions. You can look in Tyson's eyes and tell he knew he could not beat Evander! The man was a classic bully who got exposed by Buster Douglas. I still enjoyed watching him fight back in the day, but I was not fooled for long. In his/their prime, Tyson would have difficulty beating: Frazier, Liston, Foreman, Bowe( whom he ducked) and Holmes(in his prime). No heart people, the man simply had no heart! To me Ali was the best in his prime.

  10. no, even in his prime, he always had a hard time fighting taller opponents who would clinch to tie up his hands. he had no brains and was overrated. a product of media.

  11. Better to pick a champ from a more competitive era. tyson may have been the best but the numbers are always against him because competing heavyweight numbers had dropped to about half in the 1980's what they had in the 70's

As with any sport, as good as a guy 'looks' in a small comp, it has no meaning once he is faced with twice the level of competition.

Tyson may not have even made it out of the middle ranks in decades where boxing had way bigger numbers-like the 1950.s 1960's or 1970's. We just don't know for sure. Better off choosing someone like Ali who won when boxing was full of other greats.
