Mikeila Carrington, Monyata Riviera tread into Girl’s Doubles finals of MBBC Jr. International
The twosome of Mikeila Carrington and Monyata Riviera qualified for title match of Under-19 Girl’s Doubles category after beating Alice Liu-Jennifer Lu Tang in MBBC Jr. International on July 20, 2012.
This semi-final tussle, staged at Manhattan Beach in California, USA, prolonged to three exhausting sets and was resolved with 21-9, 17-21 and 21-16 margin.
The Barbados shuttlers showed superb coordination to setup a final encounter with Norwegian duo Anne Klyve-Marie Waland.
On the other hand, the opposing team failed to forge a fruitful chemistry and crashed out after losing opening and closing set of the match.
Alice and Jennifer, who belong to Chinese Taipei and USA respectively, faltered straight away in the beginning of the first set and allowed their rivals to gain an immediate advantage.
They could not pick the bird early and trailed behind the opposing team all the way to mid-game break.
Meanwhile, Mikeila and Monyata gathered valuable points at steady pace and established a decent lead with 7-3 before finishing first half with 11-5 total.
Later part of the game was also dominated by them as they cornered their challengers with a power packed campaign and placed an overwhelming margin of 21-9 at the end of the opening set.
However, the story was entirely different in the following game as Alice-Jennifer showed transformed character to avoid a straight-set defeat.
Though, they were bit confused in the beginning which resulted in 5-2 total but then couple of successive points boosted their confidence.
They narrowed the gap with 5-5 and then gained a comfortable advantage by registering 11-8 margin before the announcement of break.
The opposing shuttlers Mikeila and Monyata made swift progress immediately after the interval and reached at fighting position of 15-15 but then few blunders brought them down with 17-21 total in the final stage.
Lot of fireworks was expected in third set but it proved a dead contest after the first half.
Both teams stayed close until 11-10 before the interval but then Mikeila-Monyata accelerated the pace and left their challengers far behind.
They set the foundation of victory with 16-13 and then magnified the impact by registering 21-16 score on the board.
