Struggling in the first set, Elgin made his comeback in set two. Ungur, firing up the set opener carried away with the initial game however, Russian veteran kept on the 26-year-olds tail all the time. Rallying out games and levelling up on 1-1, 2-2 and then on 3-3, Elgin broke the higher ranked Romanian in game seven and went in lead for the first time in the match, 4-3.
With two more games left to even up the match scores, Elgin served out game eight, 5-3, and ended the set exactly the same way he lost in the first, breakpoint winner, to win the set, 6-3, and evened up the match scores, 1-1.
