Mikhail Komkov believes Kuban Krasnodar silenced critics after defeating Volga Nizhny Novgorod
In the latest round of Russian Premier League, Kuban Krasnodar claimed an impressive win by thrashing Volga Nizhny Novgorod by a 5-0 margin. Midfielder Kazaki was the star of the show as he scored a goal and added an assist at Kuban Stadium.
Lacina Traore completed a brace by opening the scoring for Kuban on eighteenth minute mark and adding another just before half time. The goals from Gheorghe Bucur, Sergei Davydov and Komkov further dented the hopes of a comeback.
Komkov believes that the Zhaby have now silenced the critics by recording a magnificent victory over the Volgari. The Russian national admitted that Volga were the favourite to claim the three points against them.
“Before the match there were a lot of talk that Volga are bound to win. It is a bit strained, and created unnecessary pressure on us. I would not say that this situation before the match gave us an added incentive but it rather added excitement to display
quality football. Thank God, everything ended well.” The former FC Krasnodar player was quoted as saying.
The former FC Metallurg Krasnoyarsk player heaped praise on their head coach, Dan Petrescu, revealing that the Romanian football manager is rightly leading the club and hope to end the following season on a high. Petrescu has won Romanian league with Unirea
Urziceni before promoting the Yellow-Greens from the Russian First Division to Russian Premier League.
The 26-Year-old is satisfied with his performance against the Volgari and insisted that team win was more important than his individual performance. Komkov highlighted that the team had enough pressure before the match due to the criticism surrounding the
Russian club. The midfielder revealed that they coped with the pressure and played some quality football in order to prove the critics wrong.
Kuban are currently at the seventh spot on the league table, a point short to Rubin Kazan and four points behind Dynamo Moscow occupying the third place.
