The Russian Nets owner promises a championship in Brooklyn in the next three years.
Brooklyn Nets will be entering in to their first ever NBA season in a matter of months with a promise to become dynasty team which will be capped off by a championship.
However, according to Russian owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, Nets fans might not have to wait very long as he promised to bring home a championship to Brooklyn in the coming three years.
"Every team has a grand plan, and we're moving slowly, step by step, because it's easy to make a strong team, but it's very difficult to make a championship team. So we are on the right way and I'm expecting our championship within
three years now” – Prokhorov said
The Russian made the claim on Friday at the ceremonial opening of the Nets new home, Barclays Centre. And it is good see that things are going to plan as he had promised a championship in the next five years upon taking over back
in 2010.
However are the claims justified? As the Nets have failed to make it to the playoffs since 2007 and have posted a record of 58-172 in the past three seasons. So what are the changes that have been made that has made the whole of
Nets management very confident in the team’s chances.
Well one of the most important changes taking place during the summer has been the opening of the deep pockets by Prokhorov who has splashed out close to $330 million in order for the team to be successful.
This huge pile of cash has allowed them to retain Deron Williams for a foreseeable future and also given them the allowance to being in quality players like Joe Johnson on their way to putting together a playoff contending team.
Other key pieces include the supporting cast of Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace who are more than playing a suitable role in the current Nets team.
Apart from showing off his deep pockets, the Russian has labelled the opening of Barclays Centre one of the momentous events in the history of the city of Brooklyn as he expects the Nets to be the best team coming out of New York.
Well we most certainly have to wait very long to see how the Nets take on the New York Knicks as they go up against them in the season opener on November 1st. And Prokhorov plans to be in attendance.
"But I'm really thirsting for the first of November."
