Mikkayla Sheridan wins 800m freestyle:  2011 Australian Age Championships
Chandler’s Mikkayla Sheridan demonstrated her fantastic swimming techniques in the 16-year-old's 800m freestyle on last day of the 2011 Australian Age Championship. The six-day championship is about to conclude after its last session at the Swimming Australia
Aquatic Centre in Adelaide.
Sheridan clocked a time of 8:42.48 minutes to earn the gold medal while Ryde-Carlile’s Laura Crockart and Campbell Town’s Dahlas Rogers settled on the podium for the silver and bronze medal in a time of 8:43.78 and 8:58.46 minutes.
Inevitably, Sheridan had a clear lead from the start and completed her first lap in 29.49 seconds while Crockart posted a time of 29.74 seconds. Moments later, Sheridan’s lead was challenged in the second lap of the race, where Crockart overwhelmed her and
clocked a time of 32.22 seconds to post 1:01.96 minutes against Sheridan’s 32.71 efforts to post 1:02.20 minutes.
In the next round, Crockart sustained her lead and clocked 2:07.78 minutes ahead of Sheridan’s 2:08.12 minutes effort. They both continued a quickest leg race, trying to secure the top contender spot while Crockart succeeded in keeping Sheridan at a bay
in the third round. Crockart completed her third round in 1:07.68 minutes to post a time of 3:14.10 seconds while Sheridan clocked 1:06.03 minutes to post 3:14.15 minutes.
In the fourth round, Sheridan’s faster struggle of 1:06.31 to post 4:20.46 minutes moved her on the first spot ahead of Crockart, who posted 1:06.52 minutes to post 4:20.62 minutes. Sheridan then enhanced her lead in every round of the swim and completed
her fifth lap in 1:05.54 minutes against Crockart’s 1:06.00 minutes effort. In the sixth round, Sheridan enhanced her lead to almost two seconds, clocking a time of 1:05.84 minutes to post 6:31.84 minutes. While, Crockart touched the wall in 1:06.38 minutes
and posted 6:33.30 minutes. Their efforts remained the same in the seventh round, while Crockart rushed in the last round and displayed a fastest sprint of 1:04.09 minutes but it was too late to defeat the arena’s favourite, Sheridan, who reported in 1:05.06
minutes to conquer the gold medal.
Their magnificent swims in the distant freestyle event earned them the crowd’s respect and they both seemed happy after demonstrating such a great effort.
