Mikkel Kessler: I have put on some pounds and I am hitting harder than ever – Boxing News
Mikkel Kessler, former WBA and WBC super middleweight champion, will go head to head with Allan Green for the WBC light heavyweight silver world title. Earlier today, Kessler had an open media workout session, speaking about his preparations for the fight
and his intentions to outwit his opponent.
The bout is scheduled for May 19 and Kessler will be moving up in weight to step in the ring. When asked, Kessler revealed about his preparations saying, “I have put on some pounds and I am hitting harder than ever. And I must say I haven´t lost any of my
speed either. Going up to light heavyweight has given me much more one-punch KO power. He will get the first taste of my new KO power. He is going to be the first person I hit without head guard and sparring gloves. It will be an unpleasant experience for
him. He is a big puncher with a lot of power, but punchers usually don´t like to get hit. They have a big punch but not a good chin. I don’t think Green will last for 12 rounds in the same ring with me, but he will ultimately find out on May 19.”
Mikkel Kessler currently stands with 44 wins, 2 losses and 33 knockouts in his portfolio, which makes him one of the most capable fighters in the industry. His knockouts stats are evidence of the fact that he indeed is a hard puncher. Now, with Kessler’s
‘new’ one hand punching power, he thinks everything will be changed.
The fight that will be held at the most famous stadium of Denmark will be televised live along the UEFA Champions League Final. Kessler said that he wants to teach Green a lesson and he will make sure that Green is knocked out.
Even though Kessler’s stats have remained good throughout his career, most analysts are of the view that he has lost his stint with age. Therefore, this fight is a milestone for Kessler to achieve and if he makes it up to the mark he indeed will prove his
mettle in the industry.
