Mikkel Kessler opens up about Carl Froch – Arthur Abraham
WBC champion in recess Mikkel Kessler has offered his thoughts on the upcoming November 27 clash between Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham.
Abraham and Froch will go head to head in Helsinki, Finland, in a bout guaranteed to provide lasting entertainment. Abraham hopes to control the pace while Froch looks to regain the WBC crown he lost to Kessler in his last Super Six tournament contest.
Boxingscene.com quotes Kessler as saying: “This fight can go both ways. Abraham is incredibly strong. If he can keep the pressure on Froch and control the center of the ring from the start, he'll have a good chance.
“Froch is moving around very well and he has the advantage due to his size and reach. This could very well be the decisive factor in this match-up. In any event, this will be one h**l of a fight,” Kessler stated.
Kessler, a three-time champion, was forced to withdraw from the tournament after a serious eye injury proved hazardous in the ring and showed no signs of improvement. He is one of three original contenders to withdraw from the Super Six, sparking wide-reaching
questions about the effectiveness of the tournament format.
Both Abraham and Froch are anxious for a win to revitalize career-low points. Abraham, disqualified in his last bout, looks to prove to audiences he is an honest fighter. He also wants to win the WBC title, which would give him a second world title in
as many weight divisions.
Froch is just as eager to win the fight. He is coming off a loss to Kessler in which he was visibly outpointed, and has said publicly that a loss would signal the end of his career.
Abraham is perhaps most noted for a wild fight against Edison Miranda, in which Miranda lost five points for repeatedly low-blowing Abraham. Miranda likewise managed to break Abraham’s jaw in two places, but Abraham fought on to earn the win.
