Mikkel Kessler ready to make comeback against Allan Green in a 12-round title-bout – Boxing News
Mikkel Kessler, the former WBC super middleweight champion, will make a comeback after the lapse of almost 10 months, against the American proud Allan Green, the former WBO NABO super middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout to be held on May 19, 2012.
The bout will headline the pay-per-view and will have the vacant WBC Silver light heavyweight title up for grabs. For Mikkel the bout is of significant importance as it will mark his debut in the light heavyweight division.
The ring for the showdown will be set up at Parken, Copenhagen, Denmark and the event is being promoted by Nisse Sauerland of SPAG. The Saturday night extravaganza will be co-headlined by the 10-round non-title bout between Mateusz Masternak and Hari Miles.
Kessler and Green recently shared their thoughts about the upcoming bout and vowed to put forth the boxing fans an epic performance. Kessler, as far as the stats, experience and resume is concerned, has a clear upper hand over Allan.
Mikkel has been in a total 46 bouts and despite the fact that he has remained outside the ring for almost a year, the Danish proud still resides at World Boxing Organisation’s sixth rank.
The 33-year-old has emerged victorious in 44 bouts and nailed 33 of his opponents by knockout. Kessler has grabbed many titles in his illustrious career in fact in his last bout against Mehdi Bouadla, Kessler, the ‘Viking Warrior’, grabbed the WBO European
super middleweight title.
It was after this bout that Mikkel faced a severe finger injury which forced him to stay outside the ring. His opponent, Allan, 32, also possesses quite an impressive resume. Green has been in a total 34 bouts and emerged victorious in 31.
The American proud has nailed 21 of his opponents by knockout and grabbed just one title in his whole career. Also known as ‘The Ghost Dog’, Green is coming from a two-bout win streak and recently nailed the heavily experienced Sebastien Demers via unanimous
decision.
During the media interaction, Mikkel iterated, “I will make sure it’s a night to remember. I look forward to fighting at light heavyweight for the first time. I have been sparring with some big guys, so I’m ready for Green. He’s a good puncher but I am the
much better boxer and with my fans behind me I will win the title on Saturday night.”
On the other hand, Green, while sharing his thoughts remarked, “It’s chilly here but I will heat it up on Saturday. I feel strong, I feel fast, I feel fit. I am full of energy and I am here to bring the belt home. Kessler is going down.”
The bout will definitely mesmerise the whole crowd as both men are high-calibre talented pugilists.
