  1. If you start using either one and get used to it, they are both excellent. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

Our department uses the Leupold 4x14 Tactical scope with mil-dots on our Remington 700 sniper systems. The nice thing about mil dot is that it is a constant judgment of measurement. Once you know your range ( distance), you can dial in your offset by counting mil dots. It makes using a dope sheet far easier to preset your rifle for any distance from 100 to 1000 yards. The only variable ( and this is with any system) would be your windage.

If it helps or adds anything to the mix here, I own my own personal Remington 700 PSS in .308 caliber and I chose to go with the Springfield Armory 4.5 to 14.5  (56MM objective lens) scope (nick named the Mankiller) using stadii wire. The stadii wire system is preset. Once you are set at 200 yards, it is self ranging through the reticle up to 1000 yards. It predicates using the 168 match grade bullet at 2600 feet per second ( standard load for the match grade bullet), but I am a hand loader so I make my own. It is a more expensive scope, but I can read newspaper headlines at 400 yards and maintain a body hit consistently out to 800 yards (the longest distance we have for qualifications on our range).

I am not saying it is right for everyone. I like it because I am not dialing in with the scope. I use my range finder and use the proper reticle in the objective lens. I can acquistion FAR faster than with our state rifles, which means a faster shot when needed.

In any case, best of luck to you and I hope this is useful
