Milan Jovanovic, the 30-year-old Liverpool winger, revealed he had been given the green light by the Reds to start looking for a new club. He arrived at Anfield in 2010 but failed to make an impact, featuring for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 side just ten times in the Premier
League since last year.
Unfortunately for him, Jovanovic was one of Rafa Benitez’s early signings. With the departure of the Spaniard shortly after, the Serbian international was barely given a chance to feature under Roy Hodgson or Kenny Dalglish.
Jovanovic admitted he had received interest from Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Schalke and Stuttgart but was most likely to end up at Olympiakos. He revealed the Greek side matches his ambitions and that he would be happy there.
Jovanovic said while speaking to the media:
“I got the paper from Liverpool that I am free to search for a new club.
Up to now, I still haven't received an official offer from Olympiakos, but I am looking forward to hearing their plans.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool have already lined up a replacement for Jovanovic, Stewart Downing. The 26-year-old Aston Villa winger himself is keen on a move to Anfield and is waiting for the Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish to reach an agreement with Liverpool.
A source close to the player revealed that it was only matter of time before Downing completes his dream move to Anfield. The source claimed:
“Stewy has made up his mind - he wants to go to Liverpool and hopes Villa will agree to let him leave.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international moved to Aston Villa in the 2009-2010 season and since then has made 79 appearances for the Villains in all competitions and has scored 11 goals. Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is certain the winger will provide Liverpool with much
needed width.
While Liverpool have an entire range of strikers and midfielders to choose from, with Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 joining their ranks in the recent transfer windows, they still lack wide players.
Liverpool would have to pay an estimated £15-17 million for the services of the Aston Villa winger.
