  1. Hi Meg!

Milan is famous for its gorgeous clubs and its nightlife. I would suggest to choose one for the New Year's Eve. As regards shops they should be closed on the 1st January because it's a bank holiday. You won't have problems on the 31st!

Try to join an "aperitivo" which is a meeting in the late afternoon held at local "bars" or pubs where people have a drink  that usually includes a delicious buffet.

  2. Alice, are you out of your mind? Milan is not as pretty as Florence, I agree, but there are LOADS of  things to do and see!

Arts: Brera Gallery, Castello Sforzesco, Last Supper by Leonardo, the Duomo, Sant'Ambrogio just to mention a few......

Then there is the shopping, the bars and discos, the Aperitivo.

To answer your question, Museums are generally closed on January 1st, but have regular hours on the 31st of dec.

  3. oh well..i live in Italy, not in Milan but in Tuscany near Florence...and i never had been in Milan, so it's an ugly town, yes there r lots of fun but it's full of palace, and there isn't monuments or something good...it's a modern town, but ugly, everyone stayed there said that it's very ugly...i know it's not like New York or London, a metro poly but for us it is.

It's better Florence or Torino and wonderful Rome!!really! but by the way i hope u'll have fun!

  4. Milan is not the best place to spend your new year. All closed there. What you gonna do then? Trust me this, I was there in Milan for 2,5 years working. Milan is perfect for Milan's Fashion Week 4 times per year. And the Salone Internazionale del Mobile every April once a year. It's spectacular.

But for new year things really.. better you go to Barcelona, New York, Paris or Brussels, they are more alive and fascinating.

  5. No.

Trust me better you spend your new year times in other cities but Milan.

New Year in Milan is nothing. All closed and empty. I've been there before in new years. So I do know how does it look like in new year. Better you go there for the Interntional Milan Furniture Fair in Rho Fiera in next April. But NOT in new year times at all.... nothing opens there, even supermarkets mostly are closed. Great restaurants and nice bars are closed as well. Shops and boutiques are deserted as well, you only could see through their windows. What would you do then?
