Milan on the brink of signing Honda
Italian giants, AC Milan are on the verge of signing arguably Japan’s best player at the World Cup, Keisuke Honda. The Japanese International was very impressive at the World Cup and a number of clubs have been linked with a transfer for him but it looks like it will be Milan of Italy who will prize the player away from CSKA Moscow.
The 24 year old became one of the hottest properties in Europe after his stunning free-kicks and all round play as the Japanese made their way to the round of sixteen for the first time on foreign soil. Milan Coach, Massimiliano Allegri, is apparently a big admirer of the midfielder and plans on playing him as part of an attacking three alongside the two Brazilian forwards, Ronaldinho and Pato.
The transfer is believed to be worth around 15 Million Euros which has been agreed to, following the rejection of an initial bid of 13 Million Euros by the Italian club. A number or European clubs such as Arsenal, Everton and Valencia were linked for a move for the player who was very impressive in the UEFA Champions League with his club.
Milan had a very disappointing campaign last season where they were completely overshadowed by an all-conquering Inter side. Milan’s title challenge faded towards the end of the league season following a defeat against their bitter rivals Inter. The coach at the time, Leonardo, was relieved of his duties despite only being at the club for a short period and a lot of criticism was directed at an ageing Milan side.
The addition of Honda is likely to be welcomed by the fans after they received assurances from the President, Silvio Berlusconi has assured that more investments will be made in the future in order to ensure that Milan challenge for honours. The President also calmed fears about the future of the Brazilian star Ronaldinho who had been linked with a move away from the club. According to the President, Ronaldinho will be at the club for life.
The move for Honda is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms between the player and the club. However, since the deal with the club has been agreed and Milan are one of the biggest clubs in the world, it is unlikely that any of those things will be more than just formalities. The left footed player has a reputation for the attacking flair he brings to the side and since the Milan fans have gotten used to such a brand of football over the years, they will be very excited to see what Honda brings to the team.
If Honda settles into the Milan side, this transfer could be one of the best of the summer because at 24, the Japanese International has time on his side and can get better. Additionally, playing with the likes of Ronaldinho, Pirlo and Pato is going to be very good for the development of Honda into a truly world class player. The sooner the move is wrapped up, the better for both clubs and the player since it would mean that AC Milan can help Honda settle into the side and CSKA will have the chance to invest in their squad with the money they receive.
