  1. i suggest you dont do it. first, because you should spend at least one day in each of those cities, especially venice. second, and more important, because by train it takes you at least 4 hours to get from milan to venice, so a huge part of the day will be lost in travelling. also, there is only one rail company in italy, which is trenitalia (www.trenitalia.it)..

  2. You can get to both of them in one day, but you won't be able to see much of either city in that time. It's a minimum of two and a half hours via train (3.5 hr on the regional trains) between the two and the train stations aren't particularly close to the main tourist attractions. For example, Piazza San Marco is about 40 minutes from the station in Venice if you walk or 30 minutes or so on the boat. Pick the one that most interests you and focus on that. Personally, my choice would be Venice because there's more to see and do as a tourist. If I were going shopping, I'd pick Milan and see the Duomo and La Scala as well.

The train schedules are here: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

  3. italy is big!!! why the americans make ever the same questions?? u can't do this!! milan is far from venice!!!

u have to spend at least 2 day both!! however in italy the railways are of the italian state, there are only one companies, FS= ferrovie dello stato= railways of state...

  4. Venice is very far north and will take a day just to get there. Trentalia is the Italian railway.
