Mild groin strain: Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson in lucky escape of serious injury – NFL News
The injury-riddled Houston Texans’ wide receiver Andre Johnson faces ousting of a week at least to recover from a groin injury he suffered at the team’s training camp on past weekend.
It is a rather unfortunate development for the player who had missed as many as nine games in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season with a hamstring problem. He had an arthroscopic surgery this offseason on his knee but luckily managed to recover
well in time for the camp.
Now it has been confirmed by the team as well as the player himself that scans results showed he suffered a mild groin injury and will take a week to recover and return to action.
He said:
"It just tightened up on me. I had hit the ground pretty hard, stretching out for a ball. That was pretty much it."
The Texans, who are already struggling with their receivers’ situation, which is below its potential strength, were lucky indeed to have escaped the possibility of a serious injury to the WR. It could have been a disastrous outcome for the team at the outset
of the preseason and regular season campaigns.
Johnson himself said of his situation:
"Nothing that I'm not used to, doing rehab. It's very frustrating, but it happens, man. I wish I had some control over it. Unfortunately, I don't."
Gary Kubiak, the Texans' coach, insisted nothing is serious about the injury and claimed the player as a matter of fact wanted to continue workout with his teammates but it was them who opted to take precautionary measure and sent him on the sidelines. The
receiver watched rest of the workout from there.
The coach said:
"I felt pretty good, because he wanted to go back out there. When a guy is telling you that, I don't think it's too bad."
Rest of the Texans' squad and managers are as confident about the player’s return to action in a week's time as the coach, and it is less likely to hurt the team further on the receivers’ positions.
Texans’ quarterback Matt Schaub, who himself is returning to play for the first time since November last year, has already spoken of his concerns about the team’s receivers’ situation.
