I have what I am very sure is mildew on my potted squash (hybrid for smaller spaces/pots). It looks like powdery spots on the leaves and on some all them way down the stems. What is a natural way to get rid of it that will not damage the fruit?

  1. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a teaspoon of oil, olive, corn etc.

Add a pint of water and shake it well pour it into a hand sprayer and go out and spray all the stems and leaves, and do it again in 10 days and again inn 10 more days.

You have powdery Mildew. It is found on top of leaves, and Downy mildew is found mostly under the leaves.

  2. Use a fungicide containing sulfur, basically a natural oil base with sulfur suspended in it. Just follow the directions for mixing and spray the plant well in the evening. Be sure to get the undersides of the leaves. You can also use a pre mixed spray containing neem oil, also acts as a natural insecticide. Make sure that your plant gets lots of light and don't spray it, water the soil not the plant itself. Water standing on the leaves is the main cause of powder mildew.
