Mildew on pages of Bible and stinky. Help?

I recently found a Bible my husband gave me for a birthday present. It has mildew on the last 100 pages or so and on the back cover. It's perfectly fine other then that. It was left outside in the Georgia humidity with a bunch of other papers, when we recently moved. I don't want to have to throw it away as it is special to me. Any suggestions would be great. It is stinky too. I hope someone can help me with this.

  1. You can try layering paper towel between the pages and putting it under a stack of books to compress and get the water out. Only do small sections at a time so you don't damage the binding. Then finish by air drying.

  2. you might try a mixture of clean playground sand or silica and borax sprinkled between the pages.  the borax should kill the mildew and deodorize and the silica should absorb the moisture.  be careful though...mold spores can make you sick. wear a dust mask, gloves, and clean the book with a soft toothbrush outside.

  3. Try using a used  fabric softener sheet in between the pages.

Just don't leave it in a moist humid place

  4. Baking soda !!! Baking soda will absorb the moisture , and it will eliminate the odor from the mildew . I read this once from a place where i ordered books from they said if you ever get a page wet or spill something in a book sprinkle baking soda through out the pages and it will absorb the moisture and will keep the pages from sticking together and molding ... I hope this will help you and Good Luck !

  5. The pages of a bible are so thin, there is nothing that I know of other than opening it up and airing it out...

  6. Airing it out in dry weather not humid or wet.  I wonder is some powder or baking soda will help absorb some of the odor and mildew.  I would try it on an inconspicuous page. Good luck-hope it helps!

  7. try lysol spray. it kills mold and mildew and will help prevent any spread of the mildew. you could also put it in a bag with some aquarium charcoal. it will absorb the remaining moisture.or try sprinkling the pages with talcum powder and discard the powder after moisture is absorbed.
