Mile...........?

on Friday, my mile time was 9:55, which i didn't like. I wanted to get in the 8's. I know a minuute in running is a lot, but do u think i could get in the 8's by next Friday and what other running techniques can i do to improve my time

im 14 by the way and a girl. 5'5

  1. ok i hate to sound pessimistic and be a jerk by shutting you down but a whole minute is nearly impossible in one week esspecially if you haven't been training for at least a month...i think you could possibly lower your time by 10-30 seconds but you need to get on the track immediately on monday and run a good workout at race pace...i reccomend 9 300m's with a 200m recovery in between each 300m(which is not a put but a steady jog) on tuesday take it easy and run a steady controlled pace for 40 min...on wednes day run2 400's with a 400m recovery after each followed by 2 sets of 600, 400, 200 with a 400 recovery between each(basically run a 400 at race pace, then a 400 recovery, 400 race pace, 400 recovery, [600 race pace, 400 recovery, 400 race pace, 400 recovery, 200 race pace, 400 recovery]repeat stuff in brackets, then go on a 10-15 min cool down, thursday go out and do another 40 min run like on tuesday  Friday-raceday drink plenty of water allday(except at 2hours away from race then just sip at it for those to hours (no more after 30 hour out) DO NOT SUNBATHE WHATSOEVER as it will drain your energy and avoid eating 2 hours out from your race...OH and one more thing make sure that before monday and wednesday's workout you do a good 15 min warmup so you don't pull anything...good luck to you i hope you get a good time(let me know how you do) omg i just saw your details added and that is NOT GOOD!!! eat a real nice lunch and breakfast everyday for instance lunch could be a bannana w/ pbj sandwich and milk but you have to eat a nice hearty meal 3 times a day everyday or your body is gonna hate you for running...also load up on carbs the night before your race (ie spaghetti and meatballs) just an afterthought if your interested in further lowering your times or running cross country i would be happy to give you more workout ideas/schedules just et me know and feel free to contact me with any ?'s you have on running


  2. i can run a mile in 6:01 which is super slow and need to go to 5:40!! but u just keep trying hun!! YOu CAN DO IT! :)

  3. Dont try so hard! Keep cool & you can get to your goal by next friday by daily practice of atleast 2-3 sets!

  4. eat light load on carbs for energy

  5. I am on the track team and what i do is just never stop or slow down.  keep up the same speed most of the time. keep urself going
