Question:

Mile run tomorrow, track meet later?

Tomorrow, the top 5 kids in the school will be running against eachother. The current leader, my best friend, with a time of 6:25, is 3 seconds faster than me, but the third-best person in the school is only 3 seconds behind ME.

I'm also running the mile, the 200, and doing the standing long jump for a track meet around 5:30 on the same day (the mile run for school is in the morning.).

Does anyone have any tips, especially for the mile run? i.e. how to run each lap, etc.? This is going to be a new experience because most of the time, the other kids are slow. "Staying with the pack" is not an option. I've never given much thought to running AGAINST others before, as opposed to just trying to beat a time.

Thank you! Tips about the 200, standing long jump, or how to prepare for my first meet are welcome also!

P.S. My mile time is 6:28-I'm a 13-year-old girl. The school record is 6:23. Also, I got 6:39 the first time I ran the mile, but the coach let me retake it, running harder.

  1. I don't know a lot about long jump but for the mile you're supposed to stay with the first place runner and sprint ahead of them at the end.

  2. yep. Im on the track team at my skewl. ok first you need to control ur breathing. Breath in through ur nose and out through ur mouth it keeps u from hypervenilating. Also, I run the 2 mile and 1 mile so i can tell you that in the beggining of the race, dont try to get in front. Keep a slow and steady pace. Wen u come round that last curve, take off as fast as u can and pass evrone up! GOOD LUCK

  3. You've asked this question 3 days in a row. each time you've said tommorow. idk why you are lieng about something so stupid but, RUN WITH THE PACK. IF THEY RUN A CERTAIN TIME YOU WANT TO BEAT AND YOU RUN WITH THEM, YOU WILL ALSO BEAT THAT TIME.

  4. When you're running the mile, what you wanna do is pick a person and stay on their shoulder. Let the person in first place lead the pack (it will tire them out cause they are running the fastest). Stay right behind them as much as you can. Then, around the end of the 3rd lap or beginning of 4th break away and take the first place spot. You should have enough energy to be beating them by a good amount cause you stayed right behind them the whole time. And PACE YOURSELF. That's why you should stay on someone's shoulder. Cause they will be doing a lot of work trying to have you not beat them and it will tire them out.

You can do this with any place. It doesn't necessarily have to be the person in first.

Sorry if this was confusing but hope it helps!
