  1. splits are a good idea.

also try to run on  your toes and lengthen your stride, that really worked for me.

also so you don't get tired, try to think about something else, like maybe what you did the day before. because i dunno about you but i cant just run, i have to think about something else.

    good luck(:

  2. 5:25 is about 1:21 per lap.  If you open around 1:18 and try to maintain that pace, even if you slow down a little you should end up fine.

I would tell you to relax the first lap so you don't go out too fast, try to maintain that pace for the second lap and on the backstretch of the third lap try to push a little.  you'll be tired  so it will feel slower than it is.  everyone is tired about that point and if you are pushing and passing, its a lot easier mentally to be passing people at that point than to get passed.  then you have a lap to go and its just whatever you have left for one lap.

    good luck!

  3. If you want to run a 5:25, I would suggest sticking right behind a person who is around 5:20 or so.

Don't look around while running. Just focus on looking at his back and that will take some of your pain away.

Since the first lap is fast, I suggest going around 78 ~ 80 seconds (1:18 ~ 1:20). Don't go faster than 78 because you will die out later. Stay calm and focus on the person I talked about.

The second lap should be around your goal pace, which is 81 seconds. If you stayed calm on the first one, you should be able to get 81 seconds. Again, stay calm and focus on the person.

The third lap should be about 82 or 83. Dont go slower than 83. This lap should be hard and you shouldn't be saving any energy for the 4th lap.

The last lap is almost all out. Whatever you have left, throw it out. Just keep on fighting and the last 200m's , you should go ALL OUT.

Just believe in yourself. If you really WANT IT badly, you should be able to get it.
