  1. Well, we have troops in every country that we have an embassy, as marines guard them.


  2. None since the bases are there by treaty with the host nation they are not occupations

As of 29 June 2008, I am aware of two:  Iraq and Afghanistan, both active theaters of the Terrorist War that has pitted Muslim against Muslim, as well as Muslim against all comers from the United States and Europe.  The new Iraqi republic is still in development, and the Taliban are once again complicating things for us and the Afghans.

    As for new construction by the United States in Congress assembled and its authorized contractors, I am aware of a small number in both theaters of war:  the Air Force expeditionary bases at Qandahar and Baghdad, plus a few (most likely, a classified total number of) Army and Marines firebases in towns particularly hard-hit by insurrections and counterinsurrections among the local populaces.
