Military Deployments

Question

If there are 2 million men and women in U.S. Military, why is the Army being deployed at 15 months at a time? I'm sure they all knew they would get deployed and most probably don't mind it, but taking them away from their families for close to a year and a half at a time?

Because that 2 million isnt all Army.

There is the Navy, Air Force and Marines.

The Army gets deployed longer because it is a combat force. It is there to keep insurgent uprisings down and to keep the insurgents in Iraq under control. The Marines also have long deployments.

Thats their job. Thats the point of the military. Back in the day people were gone for longer than that!

Different branches, different locations and different jobs so thats why so many ..... plus they and their families knew what they were getting into .... it's their jobs (they get paid)  its not like they are being forced ..... men leave their families on business trips and peace missions etc.  all the time i don't see people complaining about that

Like everyone else has said, the Military isn't one branch.  There is the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and then we can get into the National Guard and Reserves.  

They aren't all deployed to the same location at the same time, some deployments are shorter or longer, depending on what the mission requires.  Some servicemen and women have never deployed, and some never will.  You are where you are because that is where the government needs you to be.

Because you have no idea as to how the military works..

Assuming your numbers are correct we do not need all of them troops in one place at the same time..There are many different soldiers and only some are needed. Then when those soldiers are done they are relieved by soldiers with the same jobs..and the cycle continues..

You cant send a cook to do infantry work.
