Military Dog Tag help?

Im looking to buy military style dog tags but im not sure whats the best metal for the ball chain because the last dog tags i had the chain lost its colour.

What metal is the best other then silver?

What information is usually displayed on dog tags?

1 Your service number

2 Your Blood group

3 Your religion.

US Armed Forces typically carry two identical oval tags containing:

USAF Format 1:

Surname, first name, middle initial

Social Security Number, followed by "AF" indicating branch of service.

Surname

First name and middle initial

Social Security Number, followed by "AF" indicating branch of service.

USMC:

Surname

First name, middle initial (sometimes just first and last initial),

if you go to an army surplus shop they usually stock them,

they are made of a steel alloy

on real dog tags you have your name....your D.O.B .......your blood type and the prayer you want them to say when you get killed in a war
