How is it decided who flies fighters, bombers, transport, or recon planes in the military?

Also

Who instructs military pilots? Why are these guys instructing and not flying?

Last but not least...

How does the syllabus start in the military for a recruit with zero flight time? Do they fly single engine props around and gain hours first? Do they get civillian PPL and CPL flight ratings?

Thanks for your answers!

  1. Military pilots are assigned as the particular branch's requirements dictate. Military pilots are taught by military pilots who are assigned as flight instructors. They learn in simulators of the type aircraft they will be flying and then advance to the real thing. Instructor pilots maintain currency just as their civilian counterparts do.
