My boyfriend is currently in Basic for the Army. I have access to his bank account. Well of course today is the 15th which is payday. This is his 2nd paycheck while being there. It is lower than the first paycheck! Why is this? And the pay doesn't really come close at all to his rank, E-2.

  1. Mid month pay is usually lower than end of month.  It depends if he has allotments, they are taking money for the GI Bill and if he got any advances.  Without seeing his LES it is hard to say.

  2. E2 with less than 2 years in gets $1509.90 PER MONTH before deductions.  So after they take out taxes (singles pay more), state income tax, social security, medicare, Gi Bill (if it is still being deducted because of the new one so not sure), SGLI, AFRH it drops it down to around $1000/$900 a month, which is around $500/$450 a payday.   The first pay would have been higher because it would have been backdated to the date he started.  So if he started on July 20th and the first pay wasn't received until August 15th he would have gotten the extra days in June on the 1st paycheck.

  3. You have to take his base pay and cut it in half first.  Then he still has to pay taxes which comes out of his base pay and they might have been taking out an expense he owed to the government.  Paychecks aren't always going to be the same with bills, allotments, etc.

  4. It could also be that this is the check they've taken his first uniforms and supplies out of.

  5. you forgot taxes, SGLI, the GI Bill, Social security, Medicare and the advance they gave him when he first arrived to pay for necessities like underwear and toiletries.

the numbers listed on the pay charts is GROSS pay, not net.
