  1. A West Point cadetship includes a fully funded four-year college education. Tuition, room, board, medical and dental care are provided by the U.S. Army. As members of the Armed Forces, cadets also receive an annual salary of more than $6,500. This pay covers the cost of uniforms, books, a personal computer, and living incidentals. By law, graduates of West Point are appointed on active duty as commissioned officers and serve in the U.S. Army for a minimum of five years.

It’s true that there is no financial cost to attend the (Air Force) Academy. But there is a hefty price tag. You will pay for your education with sweat, hard work, early mornings and late nights. You will be held to the highest standards, without exception. And afterward, you will be required to serve at least five years in the Air Force.

The (Coast Guard) Academy provides a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program, with the curriculum heavily oriented toward math, science, and engineering. Like the other U.S. federal service academies, our students receive a full scholarship and our graduates serve in the military for at least five years after graduation.

Midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy receive from the Federal Government their education, room and board, uniforms, and books. However, midshipmen are responsible for the payment of fees for mandatory educational supplies not provided by the government, such as the prescribed personal computer; activity fees (athletic, cultural events, health services, student newspaper, yearbook, etc.); and personal fees (self service laundry, barber shop, and tailoring charges). Spending money and the cost of transportation during liberty and leave periods are also the responsibility of each Midshipman.
