Question:

Military and law enforcement question.?

It is kind of a dream of mine to be a NC highway patrolman. I couldn't honest think of anything else I would like to do with my life. But my question is.....I would like to have a nice resume and I was thinking about joining the military. I went first to talk to the army people and and then the air force people. I am leaning more towards the air force now because I could earn a degree while I was in there and hence look better to the Highway patrol. Anyways, to my question. Would it look better to the highway patrol to see that I was in the army with no degree, or in the air force with an associates degree in criminal justice, or not much of a difference either way?

Thanks for any info.

  1. Yeah, Mr. Intelligence's answer probably not the best advise. Anyway, which branch you serve in is actually irrelevant. What is considered is, overall service, your job while in the military and how that job applies to what you are looking to do elsewhere.

  2. Go with the air force!! The army is good too!! They are both the military! Don't listen to Mr. Intelligent above me the air force is not looked down on!!

  3. Would joining the local police/sheriff's office be an option?  If you do join the military I would recommend trying to go for MP.  The military is not always your only option.  Having some time under your belt as a peace officier in any fashion would look good.  Having a degree in criminal justice doesn't always have as much pull as you think.

  4. If you are below the age of 21 then hit the air force and get that degree and great leadership training.

If you are 21 or over just apply for the police.  It is no resume needed.  You go through a series of tests, physical, mental, and an interview.  But try anyway; if you do not get in, then go to the military and go later.

if this helps, the points for best answer will help me

  5. Military service is military service, period.  They will not care which branch.

A college degree is a college degree, period.  They don't care what you study provided you get a degree from an accredited school.

Obviously having both is better than only having one.

  6. To be a highway patrolmen you are going to need some form of education........or a Marine. Im not sure how they will view you for being in the USAF sinse many people look down upon them when it comes to performing stressful tasks ect.....

If i were you i would think about joining the Marines or Army....Getting some college credits, then get a degree after u got out of the military.... (military will pay for education)...

    Your resume will look awesome.

  7. no question here...the a.f. is your best bet, and it's a h**l of a lot safer guarding a stateside airbase than some checkpoint in iraq ready to get blown up with an ied
