  1. In fact they are allowed to buy a car from Americans. However, it still will be an expensive thing, because the car has to go through German specs, and usually some things like the lights have to be changed to German standards. Also, the paperwork has to go through customs.

  2. As a US military you imported your car taxfree. If a German buys your car he must pay import taxes and 19% VAT then  the car must meet German Standarts. He will only save the shipping.

  3. germans can buy cars from americans (privatly) not from military car sales....here is the problem...In most cases the american cars are deemed safer than german cars (by standard) so there is little or no conversion...except maybe the lights and exhaust system.  The problem is this ...when I sell my car to a german and lets say for example its a 1992 mustang....when the german person goes to ''register and plate'' that car he must first put it into registration (similiar to the DMV) this costs...also since there was no tax paid on this car in germany he MUST pay taxes for this car to germany for the amount it would have cost in 1992....this is the reason you see old cars from the 60's in germany....at that time they only cost 6-8000 dollars brand new and they can afford the taxes.  But unfortunatly he cant get a mustang from military car sales but he can order on from the FORD Dealership may just cost a little more for shipping but its new and converted and such...I think this may be a better option for him as far as saving themselves the headache...umm  why a mustang anyways?  There junk american cars?  he lives in the land of beemers and better quality!  :-)
