  1. yeah you have to give the money back...

  2. Yes, you will have to pay back some (a lot) of the money. As for a timeline, it all depends on how squared away your command is. I've seen people get out in a week....my, they screwed up my paperwork so bad that it took 3 months (but that is not the norm).

  3. Yes, if you received a bonus you will have to pay it back. It will be prorated based on the length of the contract and the amount of the contract completed. It depends on you, your circumstance and your command, how quickly you will return. Also, if you have spent the money and are not able to give it back you will carry a federal debt and may not be able to receive federal grants or loans, including buying a home with va financing. If you apply to use educational benefits provided by the military they may redirect your benefits to your debt. If you apply for a federal funded job and are hired they may attach payments out of your salary. You may want to consider taking emergency leave to straighten out your family care plan and then returning to service. If you are close enough to coming home, maybe your unit can work with you to get you to rear detachment.

    Good luck to you.
