Question:

Military moving your things?

If you don't do a DITY move and have the military move your belongings for you.. Does it have to be from your home of record? While my hubby was in training in California, I decided to move to my aunt's house in California too. I'm from Colorado and it's still on the record. My question is, would they only move my things from Colorado?

  1. I caution you to be very careful with the military movers.  Everytime I used a military mover I had things lost or stolen.  More than likely the were stolen, as amazingly only my guns and valuable collectables were taken.

  2. yeah i think so, was he at irwin thats where we are...good luck 2 you

  3. depends.  if you were NOT authorized to move from you HoR ( and it sounds like you weren't) then they will only move your stuff from where you are SUPPOSED to be.

so if you are talking  he was in AIT/schooling and on unaccompanied orders , then no, they will only move your stuff from CO.

  4. No, I trained in Az, had stuff moved from there, HOR is in NY, but the other stuff I'm having moved is in Indiana. They can pick up from anywhere you own stuff

  5. I would talk to the DITY people, they also set up your movers too. Also one thing to consider if the military moves your stuff and it gets broken they will pro-rate it. For instance - we had a dining room set moved and they broke two chairs - I tried to buy new chairs but couldn't find any so we got estimates from two different places to repair the chairs and they paid me about 1/2 of what the cheapest place charged us. Then they crushed a VCR of mine and said I had it for two years and they said it was worth x*x and paid me x*x minus 2 years of use!!  Not the replacement or repair cost (it was beyond repair - pushed down the top really bad).

I never did another military move - we always did DITY moves, some you can rake in the bucks others you can make a little - depends on how much the truck rental costs you - costs to different areas vary greatly!!!

  6. YES

  7. no it does not. My husband went down to AL for the Army and left me son and I in MO before we could move down. while he was gone we had to sell our house. we had to put our belongings in storage and at my parents and his. so we had our things at three different locations. none of them were our home of record.

what they will do is someone from outbound hhg (house hold goods) will call you to give you information on the moving company and to talk to you about where your belongs are. then you or the moving company will contact each other and set up the date, time and location.

And when the military moves you its called pcs.

  8. No. However, if the move will cost more because of where they are moving you from, you will pay the difference.

While I was in school in Florida, I got transferred to another (PCS transfer) school in Idaho. I stopped on the way from Florida in California and got married. The movers came to the house in California and moved our stuff to Idaho, no big deal.
