I can't decide if I want to join the military or not. I'm 25, I have a 2yr old and I know the military has a lot of good benefits to offer. I know a few people in the military that say and some say no. What would you say?

  1. If you're not 95% sure about committing to the service then NO

  2. Things to consider:

    1.  Are you married.  If not, you will need to make sure you have someone you trust, who is willing to care for your child for 2 months to 6 or 8 months while you are in Basic and at least most (or all) of your AIT (depends on the length of your AIT).

Then you have to also find someone who will take her for the 12 months when down the road you are deployed.

    2.  Married or not, can you imagine spending all that time away from her?  My husband has missed 2 christmas' in a row, almost 1/2 if not more of my middle child's birthday's and almost wasn't around to see the birth of my youngest.

    3.  The benefits are:  Good schools, good health care, steady work (no fear of strikes, layoffs or the company you work for going out of business), a support system that knows "exactly" what you are going through and the pride that comes with serving.

  3. Nope I think your 2 Year Old child needs you

  4. Raise your child, save lives and become a nurse here or teach, you can have an impact not only on your child but others as well.

  5. well.,. actually you can choose to join the military or not because if you think that there are a lot of benefits for you then go for it but joining the military is a bit wicked but if you'll be able to go through with it then why not.,. it's gonna be hard though

  6. All the military, every wepon only shows how much we are afraid of being overruned and being submitted Ö©

  7. I`m not American but since I`ve served in my own country`s armed forces for mandatory service, and was attached to a US army Unit as a liason, I can pretty much give you some background.

First, the US military as I know, has very high pay rates compared to other countries. My US army friend was a E-5(Sergeant) and he got around 3500$ a month(excluding other monetary benefits like tax reduction,Overseas deployment bonuses) which was the same pay rate as a Lieutanent Colonel in the Korean Army.

Also,I heard that serving overseas as a military personel for a certain period of time can benefit a large degree to your resume after you discharge from the army(If you`re planning for a 4 year tour). That means good Jobs ;)

The downside is that unless you`re planning to serve as a officer, you can not take your family with you on your overseas tour and that may also apply to some posts even within the states.Plus, you don`t have the right to choose where you want to serve.Don`t trust the recruiting office,I`ve seen two of my US battle buddys end up in Iraq even they submitted a request back to the states after finishing up their tour in Korea.Chuckle.

And you`re might be rather old for a new enlist.Providing the fact that most of the enlisted personnel in the US army starts serving around 18~21,that means your counterpart may be well a Corporal or even a NCO or the worst case,a Lt, which may suck if you don`t like taking orders from someone immature then you.

    Anyway,that`s all I can tell.Happy Surveying.

  8. The military does have great benefits and your child will see a lot of difrent places. Coming from experience, my husband loves serving his country but, he has said before if he would of held our daughter before he enlisted he probally wouldnt of joined. He doesnt want her to grow up without him. His aunt is a SSG and has 3 kids and because one of thems medical problems and the benefits the army has she has stayed in, but she hates leaving her kids. So its something you have to kinda search your soul for the right answer. Good luck and God Bless.

  9. Why not...If you don't like it you can always get out...Besides the travel, pay, promotion, medical, dental, day care, recreation, schools , and numerous of other benifits...You'll make some really neat, life long friends...There are alot of single parents in the military and they do very well..The military is VERY family oriented...You'll be required to have a family support plan.(Who will take care of your daughter if you have to deploy)...Just make sure you pick a job that you will enjoy...Recruiters will try to steer you to jobs that are short personnel...If you want a specific job...stay with it...they will give it to you
