Military passport vs. tourist passport?

I currently have a military passport but do I need a tourist passport for an upcoming vacation?

If so, do I need to start from scratch, or can I get one using my military passport?

I'm assuming that if you are travelling as a tourist (and therefore a private citizen), you will probably need a private passport. It's unlikely the military will like you to use a military passport if travelling privately.

However, do ask your boss as if you apply privately, the passport office may have a problem as you already hold a passport. The passport may require some additional paperwork.
