Since USAA is directed toward military, is it the better choice for military as far as rates and package deals, etc.??

I would shop for choice, but in my experience, their customer service is the BEST.  They take good care of their customers.

    Thanks,

  2. USAA is a great company.  When I had them, the longest I was ever on hold was about 30 sec.

  3. Depends.  During the past 30 days I have done auto and home owners insurance comparisons (over 15 companies) for same type coverage as my present policies (this will depend on what you need or what you are looking for).   After many quotes by e mail, snail mail and phone calls, I went with Erie Insurance.

  4. Yes.  USAA is a bang-up, awesome company.  You won't do better.

  5. USAA will often have terrific rates, but each individuals rates will vary.  You'd be best suited to shop to numerous companies.  The company I work for sometimes blows USAA out of the water and other times isn't even close, it really depends on the individual buying the insurance.

I wouldn't concern myself with how people perceive the claims payouts from Hurricane Katrina.  Many of the best and most reputable companies have been sued and won the suits over Katrina because it wasn't their fault that they didn't provide coverage.  I'm sure USAA handled those claims legitimately.  The government organization FEMA is responsible for flood insurance and claims and has mandated that homeowner's insurance coverage is not to cover floods.  That's why so many homeowner's claims were denied during Katrina; those homes should have been covered by flood insurance.  That's a federal policy, not insurance company rules.

Sorry for my rant, people ragging on insurance companies over Katrina annoys me (I feel sympathetic towards the victims, but I blame the government, not the insurance companies).  Shop USAA and a few other large companies...it'll pay off.

  7. they are good for military.  rates are decent and you can carry the auto coverage with you when you get transferred.  They do seem to take care of the clients as we can never get them to pay for c**p on our insureds when one of their insureds causes an accident.  this is good for their insureds, but bad for ours.  I hope I NEVER get smacked by someone with USAA.

  8. USAA would say so but I would comparison shop.  I don't think they were very good about paying claims arising out of Hurricane Katrina.

  9. Home insurance covers lots of different things. I don't understand all the fine print of my homeowners policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try contacting your agent or a homeowners agent in your city. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-I... They should be able to help you.
