  1. If he fought for England, his records will be kept at the National Archives in Kew. You can access them online, or call their helpdesk, and they're very helpful. they don't seem to get annoyed, no matter how long you bug them ;)

They found my grandfather's entire file from when he was in the navy, as well as details on his ships, medals and service history. I have yet to see the file myself, but am planning the trip.

  2. try calling red cross. they seemed to hlep em i found out my great great grandfather died in a concentration camp from them. they might have his records some where.

  3. With the military the only people that can get military records besides the person themselves is the spouse or someone who has Power of Attorney.  The military is a real stickler for this for obvious reasons.  Is your grandmother alive?  She could get them.  I have dealt with Red Cross before and they don't deal with records they mostly contact military if there has been a death, birth or something along those lines.  What branch was he in, first start by having the person who has the POA contact them.

  4. The National Archives keeps all military records at a facility in St. Louis. Here's their website, complete with contact info:

    http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/militar...

They're very efficient at filling requests and they'll send you everything in the file if you request it. These are public records after their discharge, as are the files on all federal employees. You can indeed get the information.
