What kinda of free travel do you get? Can you stay at any military (of your branch or any?) base for free? Just in general what kinda perks are there for travel. Does this work for the National Guard too? I'm talking about deployments either.

  1. Forget it.  There is no free travel.  You fly commercial like everybody else.  The military only transports deployed soldiers to their destinations by orders.

  2. No free travel.  You can get military discounts depending on what company you go through.

You can stay at the hotels on base, but it's not free, but it is discounted.  The one on Ft campbell is nice with mini fridges and microwaves in the room and we paid like $40 a night.

  3. Its called space available to travel. You hop on a DOD plane if there is space. You can't make reservations or anything, you just have to show up and hope there is room. Its usually free, but sometimes you have to pay a little money, rarely over 50 bucks.

    Works 4 National Guard too

  4. You can actually get free travel.  It's called Space A flights.  These are aircraft going from military base to base.  If there is room they will let you ride no charge.  However they are often unpredictable and your not always guranteed a spot.  If your not in a hurry and just want to travel, this is the way to go.  You can even go overseas on it.  But it's first come first serve - you may flight out that day or you may be there for a week.

Staying on base usually runs $20-30. Not free but they are usually nice rooms.
