Milk allergies in toddlers?

My 18 month daughter refuses to drink any other alternative to milk. I still have her on nutramagen formula. Its expensive and she is not willing to drink anything other then formula. She will drink water and juice is another issue. She also still gets a bottle and wants it several times during the night. She is not a great eater and very picky as well. Should I just stop cold turkey and let her cry like I have been told...because I have a problem letting her cry. Help!!

  1. I hear ya on the letting them cry thing, sister!  I can't do that either.  My babe is 16 months old.  I personally see no value in letting babies cry (in most situations, not all).

You probably already know this, but the night-time bottles is nothing but a habit at this point.  I would start replacing some of her bottles in the night with water (do it gradually), or maybe very diluted formula.  Don't do it cold turkey, do it gradually.  You could also try mixing her formula with regular homogenized milk.  Start putting it in a sippy cup, she is getting too old for bottles.

    Good luck!

  2. go cold Turkey on the nutramigen!

my daughter was on nutramigen also, & after hearing EVERYONE & there mom tell me how much there kids L0VED milk & "once they had it never wanted formula again" I was super excited to finally be off such an expensive formula!!! but like you she didn't take to it the way i'd hoped-she really preferred the nutramigen (That stuff smells s0000 gross I cant understand how she could drink that for 12 months LOL)

Finally I just got to the point of cold turkying the nutramigen & giving her just milk -

it took her about a week to chug it with the same enthusiasm as her formula but I'm so glad we took that route!

As for the night that's tough-I would have to let her cry it out b/c she should really learn that eating is for daytime & nighttime is for sleepy time

maybe she'll eat more enthusiastically during the day if she knows that at night she wont be getting anything anymore
