Question:

Milk spilled on laptop keyboard?

Last night I spilled about 4 tablespoons of milk on my laptop keyboard. It worked for about a minute but then I turned it off. I took the battery out, and cleaned out as much milk as I could, and drizzled a bit of water on top of the keys so they wouldn't smell. [Yes, bad Idea...] I turned the laptop back on, and it continually pressed "Z". So, I thought there may be milk under the keys still, and took off the face of the half of the keys that had milk on them. [Very dirty.] I cleaned out all the milk, and a bunch of the letters no longer press what they should. The keys are still off, but most letters don't show up as the letter they're assigned to.

How can I fix this, without taking it to a repair shop?

Thanks.

  1. You are going to have to replace your keyboard. If you can operate a screwdriver, you can replace it yourself.  Go online to determine how to install a new keyboard on your particular brand of computer and also where to order a replacement keyboard.

Unfortunately I have had to replace my laptop keyboard 3 times. I haven't gotten milk in it yet but I did get about 1/4 can of Coke (I do not suggest anyone do this) ;).

If you have a Dell computer may I suggest an excellent parts service?

  2. Quick! Pour cereal on top of it!

  3. ok here is one thing that i learned NEVER TO DO TO A COMPUTER never apply heat to a computer it can melt the chips then ur really screwed put it in a area that is room tempurature and totally dissassemble it

  4. sorry to say but seems that your keyboard is busted now. Try using a hair dryer and blow it on the keyboard to dry out all the moisture and see if it still works.

  5. Do a search with your laptop model numder and then search for a new Keyboard. I just replaced a laptop keyboard on a compact presario and found a brand new one for $ 25.00 with shipping on E-Bay. It only took about 15 Minutes to install. I bet you could even find some one you know that could tackle the job and save you lots of money in repair costs.
