Milk thistle and the effects of alcohol?

does taking milk thistle pills cancel the intoxifying effects of alcohol? I want to start to take them because i know it is very beneficial to the liver, but i don't want the intoxifying effects of alcohol to go away. i'm 18 years old, going into college this fall. and i am trying to prevent against any liver damage in the future.

p.s. if you are going to tell me just not to consume alcohol, then don't bother answering

  1. I had a friend who took them regularly.   They definitely didn't interfere with her ability to become intoxicated.  She said she had to urinate a lot more often while taking them, though.


  2. You've already given yourself your best answer, but Milk Thistle doesn't prevent you from being intoxicated, it just nourishes your liver. Also, alcohol doesn't damage the liver anywhere near as much as Milk Thistle benefits it.

    It would be like feeding a hungry person while pinching their arm... they'll still get the food and nourishment, and that nourishment will help them heal from the pinching.

    And yes, it's better to prevent the damage than try to recover from it. Good luck!
