Millennium Stadium to get tighter security at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Gerry Toms, the general manager at the Millennium Stadium which is located in Cardiff recently assured the spectators that the security at the venue will be firmer at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Millennium Stadium has been given the honour of playing host to the football events of the third Olympic Games in the capital of England which are set to commence from July 27.
The statement about the tighter security at the football event of the Olympic Games came after the unfortunate incident at the Boat Race on the River Thames which was interrupted due to a protestor coming in the way of the boats from Oxford and Cambridge.
Not only did the management of the Millennium Stadium reassure the spectators, the British Olympic Association also released a statement saying that the athletes taking part in the London 2012 Olympic Games would be protected by the BOA.
The football events at the Millennium Stadium are scheduled to start from July 25, Wednesday. The venue has been selected to hold a total of 11 matches throughout the Olympic Games. These matches will also include two of the quarter final football matches.
Not only that, the Millennium Stadium is going to welcome both the women as well as men football events of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Mr Tom expressed himself in the following manner while in conversation with BBC Radio Wales, “Obviously they plan their contingencies for what they can reasonably expect to happen but there again who would have thought that someone would take such action?
The whole purpose of public events... Is to allow the people to engage with what's happening in front of them, to give them the best view, to get them as close to the action as possible. And in doing so of course you have to give up certain parts of security
you would like.”
Despite the fact that the spectators have been assured by Mr. Toms about the security at the venue, the risks that the London 2012 Olympic Games will bring along will not be completely eradicated and only minimised.
