Milorad Cavic dominates Men’s 100m butterfly heats: Day four - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Milorad Cavic of Club Wolverine dominated the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 100m butterfly on fourth day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Sunday, July 8.
Cavic, who was evidently strong for the fastest finish, met expectations of his followers by dominating the qualifying rounds of the event.
With his invincible efforts, he stayed marginally ahead of his challengers in the double lap event and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 54.51 seconds for first position.
His gruelling pace remained 0.22 seconds faster from his team-member, Sean D Fletcher, who occupied second position of the discipline by submitting a time of 54.73 seconds.
The 20-year-old Fletcher was chased by Edward Liu of Toronto Swim Club, who stayed 0.57 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and ended his swim in third best place by reporting a time of 55.30 seconds.
Fourth finest qualifying position was obtained by Liu’s teammate, Zack Chetrat, who stayed just 0.01 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 55.31 seconds.
Chetrat was chased by Daniel L Madwed of Club Wolverine, who was just a touch away from his former finisher and posted a time of 55.41 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Joe Bartoch of London Aquatic Club, who remained 0.43 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 55.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Bartoch remained 0.15 seconds ahead of David Sharpe of Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club, who occupied seventh position of the event with an effort of 55.99 seconds.
Eight finest spot of the race was secured by Peng Wu of Club Wolverine, who remained 0.03 seconds behind and reported a time of 56.02 seconds.
Similarly, Wu stayed in a lead of 0.20 seconds over Mack Darragh of Oakville Aquatic Club, who earned ninth position of the discipline with the timing of 56.22 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was secured by Ivan Cocunubo of Club de Natation de Gatineau, who ended tenth with an effort of 56.23 seconds.
Furthermore, these participants will contest each other in the final round to prove their mettle for gold medals.
