Milorad Cavic earns Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day four - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Milorad Cavic of Club Wolverine earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on final day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Sunday, July 8.
The 27-year-old Cavic stayed in a clear lead over his strongest challenger and made his way to the finishing wall for first position.
He served notice of his talent in the two-lap butterfly discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 52.86 seconds.
The champion was followed by his teammate, Peng Wu, who stayed 0.25 seconds apart and cruised his way towards the finishing end for second position by reporting a time of 53.11 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Sean D Fletcher of Club Wolverine, who remained 1.15 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing wall as bronze medallist by producing a time of 54.26 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Edward Liu of Toronto Swim Club, who stayed 1.44 seconds away from securing the podium and settled on the wall with an effort of 55.70 seconds.
The 17-year-old Liu was chased by Daniel L Madwed of Toronto Swim Club, who remained just 0.04 seconds behind and finished his race in fifth best place by reporting a time of 55.74 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was secured by David Sharpe of Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club, who stayed almost half a second behind and reported an effort of 56.25 seconds.
Similarly, Sharpe was chased by Ivan Cocunubo of Club de Natation de Gatineau, who remained 0.14 seconds apart and ended seventh in the discipline by submitting an effort of 56.39 seconds.
The 18-year-old Cocunubo was trailed by Mack Darragh of Oakville Aquatic Club, who stayed marginally slower from him over the finishing end.
Darragh remained just 0.05 seconds away from overwhelming his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 56.44 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Cavic was contented with his astonishing effort in the discipline and said that he will try hard to attain the same at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
