Milos Raonic, Albert Ramos move to the third round – Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2012
Milos Raonic beats Igor Andreev 6-4, 6-1
Seeded 11th at the event, Milos Raonic scored an easy win over 82nd ranked, Igor Andreev of Russia, in the second round at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in Spain on Wednesday. The Canadian required just
an hour and 14 minutes to oust Andreev in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 and get through to the last 16.
Raonic made an excellent start by holding his first serve without losing a single point. On the other hand, Andreev had to save a couple of break points to win his’ and level the score at 1-1. Neither of them lost his serve until
the 10th game when the Canadian struck to win 6-4.
The 21-year-old, Raonic, came roaring in the second set, as he snatched breaks in the second and fourth game, holding his own to race to a 5-0 lead. Andreev succeeded in posting something on the scoreboard but the Canadian served
it out without losing any point, clinching it 6-1.
Raonic said, commenting on his game, "I feel my level improved a lot between my first match and this one. I'm hitting the ball better and feeling well on the court.”
He added, "I've not looked ahead to the next match but I will. I like the way my game is feeling on clay and I think I have my chances here. If I can just keep trying to get better and better I'm sure I can do well."
The Canadian will face sixth seed, Nicolas Almagro of Spain, in the round of 16.
Albert Ramos defeats Benoit Paire 6-3, 7-5
World number 43, Albert Ramos of Spain, prevailed over Frenchman, Benoit Paire, in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the third round.
In the first set, both players held their serve in the first seven games to take the score to 4-3 in the Spaniard’s favour. Ramos broke the French at that moment and grabbed it 6-3.
Paire and Ramos exchanged two breaks of serve in the first 10 games of the second set and equalised the score at 5-5. The Spaniard hit a blow in the 11th and made the most of it to triumph 7-5.
The Mataro, Spain resident fired three aces and committed a couple of double faults in the match. The left-hander performed quite well on the second returns, sealing 18 of the 29 points on them. The match lasted for just an hour
and 23 minutes.
Ramos is drawn to meet eighth seed, Kei Nishikori, for a place in the quarter-finals.
