Milos Raonic's injury likely to heal by US Open; will miss Montreal Masters – Tennis News
Current World number 26 and the only Canadian contestant ranking in the top 50 to qualify for a direct round at the Rogers Cup; Milos Raonic, might not be able to make an appearance at the Montreal Masters held at the Uniprix Stadium, Montreal (Quebec) from 8th August to 14th August.
Recovering from a surgery for an injury sustained in Wimbledon, Raonic is likely to not see action for a few weeks. He managed to break through to the second round at Wimbledon by outmanoeuvring Gicquel in the first round and was in the lead against Gilles Muller when fate waved its wand and poof! – Milo slipped on the grass court and although he continued playing after being medically examined, he eventually retired. For a few fulgurating moments the “Canucks” had it going on and so it seemed the week would go into Canadian history with the results beaconing Canada’s return to the Grand Slams.
Later Tennis Canada had announced that Raonic will be missing six weeks of tennis, however, is scheduled to play Winston-Salem Open, which is to be held a week before the US Open. However, Milos Raonic is very hopeful about his recovery and following his injury tweeted, “Thanks to everyone for the warm wishes and concern, I am getting better and getting healthy, I will keep you updated more often.”
Following his injury at Wimbledon, Raonic had undergone hip surgery that has put him out of action for more than a month, a cruel fate to befall a rising star such as him.
At the age of 20, the Serbian born Canadian is Canada’s highest ranked male singles player. Raonic made his debut to fame at the season opening Grand Slam, the 2011 Australian Open. After qualifying there he won six straight matches including a breath taking victory over the top ranked Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the third round only losing to David Ferrer in the fourth , Raonic played his part as he denied the Spaniard a straight sets victory pushing the match to four sets.
Milo’s most notable performance other than the Australian Open was at SAP Championship a ATP World Tour 250 category held in San Jose, USA; where he beat world no. 9 Fernando Verdasco (Espanola) and won his first ATP title. And again defeating him at Memphis in t he first round of Regions Morgan Keegan Championships. The Canuck has played 3 Grand Slams and saw 2011 as a giant leap in his rankings; as he rose from World No. 152 to World No. 26 as of July 2011, in a matter of few months.
Canadian Open also acknowledged as Canada Masters and Rogers Cup is an annual event held in Montreal, during the odd numbered years while in Toronto, during the even numbered years, alternatively between July to August. The hard courts have been home to the tournament ever since 1981 and marks out the men’s singles; a major event of the Grand Prix Tennis Circuit until 1989. The contest is played at the Uniprix Stadium formerly known as Jarry Park Tennis Center.
