Milos Raonic begins his Australian Open campaign in style – Tennis Special
Canadian tennis ace, Milos Raonic, ousted the Italian veteran contestant, Filippo Volandri, in the first round of the Australian Open tournament on Tuesday. It was a dominating performance from the 21-years-old, as he plonked the
Italian in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. A sizeable crowd was present in the arena to witness the young tennis ace taking on one of the experienced Italian contender.
Both players were facing off for the first time in their professional career. It was expected to be a good battle, for the experience sometimes overpowers the immaturity of young superior ranked players but Raonic was in no mood
to allow any sort of opportunity to his opponent. It was a complete one-man show; full of dominance.
First set was pretty sloppy as per the standards of the Canadian and he only managed to break serve only once. Luckily, his opponent was not in sublime form to break back and level the scores. A tamed effort from the Italian was
very disappointing for the viewers. Both players capitalized on their serves. Raonic with that initial one breakthrough had an advantage that earned him the first set win.
It was all getting very ominous for the veteran as he was not fighting at all and performed below-par. Raonic pounded on him in cracking fashion; sealed the second set win with a bagel; completely controlled the proceedings of
the match to his likings. Fourth set was not much different as per the game play of the Canadian was concerned as he started off with a serve break and continued to dominate the proceedings in the following games of the set.
Raonic broke serve in the seventh game that gave him the lead of three games; he served for the set and won it in style to march into the next round of the contest. It was a classic performance from the youngster and crowd was
thrilled to witness such an enthralling display of all round shots from him. He was fluent and his footwork was up to the mark.
Several unforced errors from his opponent also led to his downfall but nothing should be taken away from the young Canadian tennis ac; he rocked the show. This performance will lit up his eyes further towards the first Grand Slam
title of his career. He will feel more confident going into the next round and it will help him to overpower his upcoming rivals. He might be the one to rise as the underdog and move into the advanced rounds of the tournament.
Canadians will be proud of their only tennis superstar; he has represented Canada at all elite platforms. He was the most improved player last year and definitely reserves the right to be praised for his non-stop exciting performances.
The way he ousted the Italian experienced tennis ace definitely sent a strong message to his rivals in the next stages of the game. He is out there to prove his worth and he will spare nobody on his course to achieve his goal.
