Milos Raonic is all set to commence the Wimbledon campaign at a high note – Tennis News
Canadian superstar, Milos Raonic, is trying his best to prepare himself for the upcoming challenge in Wimbledon where he injured himself last year. He slipped miserably in the second round contest and was forced out of the competition
with a throbbing right hip injury.
World number 22, Raonic, proclaimed that his preparation this year was just halted by rains and nothing else. He has been on course to stay fit and enhance his stamina that will help him overcome the initial nerves at the grass
court Grand Slam Championship opener against the 45th ranked Colombian, Santiago Giraldo.
He said, “I didn't think about it too much. Only when it would rain a little bit or if it was wet, we would sort of practise a little bit more cautiously. Outside of that, when the court conditions are how they should be, there
were no second thoughts."
Raonic wants to improve his confidence level at grass court that will be an early win for the 21-year-old youngster, who is planning to prove his worth in Wimbledon. It will be a difficult task provided a very tough tie in the
opener with tougher matches to come later on. However, a strong willpower will definitely help him grow as a strong contender.
The Canadian has been at Wimbledon for a month now; training extremely hard to make sure that he lands at the courts with just one thing on his mind, a victory. His training was hampered slightly by the windy weather that often
brought some rain showers bur he believes he is prepared well enough for the challenge. He added, “I've gotten all the practice I was hoping for.”
He practiced with several big guns and while answering a question who were they, he mentioned, “Everybody from (Roger) Federer and (Novak) Djokovic to (Lukasz) Kubot and (Nicolas) Mahut - a bunch of different players, a bunch of
different styles."
Raonic is least concerned about the draw. He just wants to take the tournament match by match rather create possibilities of upcoming rivals. At the moment, he is just concentrating to develop a plan against Giraldo who is his
first competitor. After that he might get Vasek Pospisil or Sam Querrey. If he manages to clear the first two stages of the tournament, he might lock horns with the fourth seed Briton, Andy Murray, in the third round.
So, the matches are tough but Raonic is even tougher this time around. He is definitely a player to watch.
